Grants for budding young artists in Dartmouth

Sep 4, 2019

Emerging young high school student artists from Dartmouth or Westport are invited to apply for a $500 grant with the non-profit South Coast Artists, Inc. this September.

These juried grants are aimed at encouraging young artists to explore their field by helping cover costs of art materials and supplies, art related travel, training, classes, apprenticeships, or other expenses toward the completion of a creative project or goal.

According to youth grants chairperson Heather Stivison, it is an annual opportunity for recognition that can also be a valuable addition to a college application for future art majors. Last year’s winner was Michelle Sherman from Dartmouth High.

Applications and recommendation forms can be downloaded from the “Community” tab at southcoastartists.org and must be submitted by October 1, 2019.

A recommendation from a teacher, mentor, or other non-family member is required.

The South Coast Artists’ micro-grant program was established in 2014 in memory of Poole Barker, a young exhibiting member of SCA. The organization hopes to encourage Poole’s spirit of creativity, joy and exploration through these grants.
