Grow into STEM
Event Date:
UMass Dartmouth’s Kaput Center invites girls to learn about science at their 13th Annual STEM4Girls Day on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This year’s theme is “Blue Economy,” which focuses on how science, innovation, and sustainability intersect with the future of our oceans and waterways.
There is a full itinerary for attendees. The day starts with a keynote address by Nishita Roy Pope, the founder and CEO of Courage Builder. Next is a question and answer with UMass Dartmouth STEM students, then workshops led by faculty, graduate students and community experts.
The day ends with a student presentation from Our Sisters’ School on the impact STEM education has on young girls in the area.
Events like this can help promote confidence and curiosity in young girls, and encourage them to go toward STEM careers.
“While women occupied 47% of all jobs in the country, a mere 24% of them held positions in STEM fields,” states the UMass Dartmouth Kaput Center page.
This free event will be on campus, 285 Old Westport Road, held in the Main Campus Auditorium.
