Here’s what’s happening at the Council on Aging in February

The Dartmouth Council on Aging will be hosting a full schedule of events and activities in February. Here’s what’s coming up next month.

In February Council is continuing its 100 Cups of Coffee Challenge, seeking to have 100 cups of coffee with local business owners and various town departments to share information and ideas relating to the needs and wants of the aging community. Call or visit the Center for more information.

Health and Wellness

A free Dance for Parkinson’s class will be held on Mondays from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m., excepting the third Monday of the month. Participants of all levels and abilities are empowered to explore movement and music. Caregivers are welcome.

Throw a Punch at Parkinson’s Boxing Exercise program continues on Tuesdays from 1-2 p.m. Call the Center for more information.

There will be free Pain Screenings with Bay State Physical Therapy on the second Thursday of the month, February 13, from 1-2 p.m. By appointment only.

On the second Tuesday of the month, February 11, from 9 a.m. to noon, the Center will hold a free Nutritional Clinic. The Clinic includes private consultations with Registered Dietician Katlynn Ferreira. By appointment only.

Monthly hearing evaluations with hearing aid checks and cleanings will be available on the last Thursday of the month, February 27, from 10 a.m. to noon. By appointment only.

Educational programs

New this month, the Center is offering pool lessons for beginners or those interested in improving their skills at the table. The lessons are on Wednesdays from 1:15-2:30 p.m.

A Census representative will give an overview of the Census and its importance as well as available options for responding to the federal forms at the Center on February 10 at 11 a.m.

The Center will hold an Essential Oil Workshop on February 18 at 1 p.m. Those interested in attending should sign up at the front desk.

Arts and entertainment

Café 628, the pop-up breakfast place at the Center, will be serving a fresh, heart-healthy breakfast on February 14 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. The cost is $4.

The Annual Valentine Dance will be held on Friday, February 14 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Center. Advance sign up is required.

February’s Film Matinee is 2016 romantic drama “The Choice,” based on a Nicholas Sparks novel. The free screening will be on Thursday, February 20 at 1:30 p.m. Sign up required. Free Popcorn.

The Center will host its Annual Chili Cook off on Friday, February 21 at 12:30 p.m. Four teams are competing this year. Cost is $3 and sign up is required.
