Here’s what the Dartmouth Council on Aging has planned for June

June is here and the Dartmouth Council on Aging will be hosting a full schedule of events/activities. Here’s what’s coming up this month:

Beach party at Apponogansett Park
Registration is open for the COA’s beach party at Apponagansett Park on June 6 (rain date June 13). The event will include entertainment and hamburgers and hot dogs. The cost is $5 in advance.

Managing money: a caregiver’s guide to finances
On Tuesday, June 14 from 1 to 2 p.m. Join the COA to learn tips for managing someone else’s finances, how to prepare for future care costs and the benefits of early planning, presented by the Alzheimer’s Association. Call the Center to pre-register.

Cupcake decorating with Nina
On Thursday, June 16 at 1 p.m., learn to frost, fill and customize your own cupcakes.
Cost is $5. Pre-registration required.

Vintage car slide show and root beer floats
On Friday, June 17 at 1 p.m. take a ride down memory lane, from Rambler to Studebaker, with John from Orphan Garage. Sign up required.

Seminar on Medicare Supplement and Advantage Plans
On Tuesday, June 21st at 2 p.m. the COA will hold a seminar explaining the differences between common Medicare plans. The session is free but pre-registration is required.

New chair massage with Linda
On Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m., sessions are available by appointment. The cost is $2.

New music with friends
On Tuesdays at 1 p.m., an informal group of musicians will meet to share songs, sounds, and stories. Free. Walk-ins welcome.

Family Caregiver Support Group
On the first Thursday of the month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. join Coastline in a partnership with the COA for a monthly support group. No pre-registration needed.

YWCA Widowed Persons Program at the center
On the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month will hold sessions from 8:30 to 10 a.m. and from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Walk-ins are welcome.

Elder law consultations with Attorney Brandon Walecka
On the 2nd Thursday of the month from 10 to 11 a.m., make an appointment to speak with the lawyer.

Free legal consultation with Justice Bridge
On the last Wednesday of the month from 2 to 3 p.m. make an appointment to speak to a lawyer, available through UMass Law.

Hearing evaluations and hearing aid checks
On the 3rd Thursday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon, the center will hold a hearing clinic with At Home Healthcare. Call the COA to schedule an appointment.

Blood pressure clinic is back
On the last Tuesday of the month from 10 to 11 a.m. visit the COA for a blood pressure clinic. Walk-ins welcome.

Free pain consultations
On the 3rd Thursday of the month at 1 p.m., the COA will hold free pain consultations with Baystate Physical Therapy. Call ahead to make an appointment.

Pen Pal project
Contact the center if you would like to be paired with a writing buddy in the community.

Coffee Hour
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.

Country Three Band
On the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. come see the Country Three Band for live music and dancing. The cost is $4. Walk-ins welcome.

Guided meditation with Lynda
On Tuesdays from 10:15 to 11 a.m., attend a free guided meditation, great for those who are looking for potential new ways to release any tension and stress in the mind and body.

Gentle yoga
On Fridays from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Jane Hoffman will teach gentle yoga. The cost is $5 per class.

Gentle yoga dance
On Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. try gentle yoga combined with dance movement of exercise to uplift the spirit. Walk-ins welcome. The cost is $5.

Resistance bands with Larry
On Wednesdays at 1 p.m. Bands are gentle on joints, versatile and can be modified for all levels. This group class will include a stretching and balance component. Bands provided. The cost is $2. Walk-ins welcome.

Zumba Gold
On Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. the COA will host the popular dance aerobics class. Cost is $7.

Book Club
On the 2nd Monday of the month at 1 p.m., join the book club for a discussion on the book of the month. June’s book is: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. For more info call the center.

Tai Chi
On Tuesdays from 9 to 10 a.m. The cost of 8 weeks of sessions is $30.

Dance for Parkinson’s
On Mondays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. participants are empowered to explore movement and music. Walk-ins welcome. Free.

Art class
On Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon, students can work on their own pieces and receive instruction as needed. The cost is $10. Contact the center for more information.

Knitting and sewing for charity
On Thursdays, put your textiles skills to work for a good cause. Knitting is at 9 a.m. and
sewing is at 10 a.m. Walk-ins welcome.
