Here's what the Council on Aging has planned for July

July is just around the corner, and the Dartmouth Council on Aging will be hosting a full schedule of events/activities as the center enters its next phase of fully reopening. Here’s what’s coming up next month.

Council on Aging newsletter

COA Day at Jones Beach

To celebrate the next phase of the reopening process, the COA will host free exercise classes and a music-filled cookout at Jones Beach on July 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be a continual shuttle bus from the center to Jones Park. The exercise class is free and will be from 9 a.m. to noon. The cookout will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and will cost $5.

Tickets will go on sale July 2.

Music on the lawn

Join jazz and Broadway singer Betty Bombshell for an afternoon of live music outside the center. The show will be held July 30 at noon. Concert-goers are asked to provide their own chairs.

Cost is $5. tickets will go on sale July 2.

The return of an old favorite

The popular Country Three Band is back on July 21 from 1 to 3 p.m. There will be live music, dancing, and refreshments. Tickets cost $4.

A tight knit bunch

The Center’s Charity Knitters and Sewers are back on Thursday mornings. For more information contact Nancy at the center.

Alzheimer’s support group

The Center’s alzheimer’s support group will resume meetings at the center every other Tuesday from 3 to 4 p.m. beginning July 13. This professionally led group is for caregivers. For more information, contact facilitator Carolyn Greany at (508) 304-4587.  

Legal advice

For other legal advice, the COA will host consultations with elder law attorney Brandon Walecka on July 8 from 10 to 11 a.m. by appointment only.

The COA also recommends reaching out to the Justice Bridge Legal Center, a UMass Law affiliate that can be reached by calling (508) 449-9296 or emailing info@justicebridge.org.

Justice Bridge will also hold a clinic on July 28 from 2 to 3 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call the center.

Walking group 

The walking group will travel a route starting and ending at the center at 8:45 a.m. Fridays. To pre-register, call the center.

Yack it up 

Travel down memory lane together. 

Come and chat about fun experiences and share personal stories to foster new connections and friendships. 

This informal group will meet at 10 a.m. on Fridays

Book Club

The book club meets at 1 p.m. the second Monday of the month.  Pre-registration is required. The group will meet indoors, or outdoors if weather permits.

Osteo exercise

An osteo exercise class will be held from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. Mondays. Space is limited.

Zumba with Michelle

Zumba with Michelle is offered from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays. Cost is $7.

Cam’s body awareness

Cam’s body awareness is held from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday and 1 p.m. Fridays. Cost is $2.
