Here's what the Council on Aging has planned for September

September is just around the corner, and the Dartmouth Council on Aging will be hosting a full schedule of events/activities. Here’s what’s coming up next month.

Council on Aging newsletter

Watercolor painting with Jane Bregoli

Join Dartmouth artist and author Jane Bregoli to learn more about methods and techniques of watercolor art.

Workshops will be held for three consecutive Mondays on Sept. 13, 20, and 27 from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is $36.00.

Dance for Parkinson’s

Beginning Sept. 20, the Center will host a weekly training session in which participants are empowered to explore movement and music. Sessions are free and will be held Mondays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Garden club with Maria Connor

Come and share your ideas to help beautify the grounds around the Bliss Corner property. For more information, contact Friends of the Elderly President Maria Connor at (508) 636-6453.

Music on the Lawn

Join the Tri-County Trombone Ensemble for an afternoon of live music outside the center. The show will be held Sept. 16 from 1 to 2 p.m. Concert-goers are asked to provide their own chairs. To reserve a spot, call the Center.

Music at the Center

The popular Country Three Band will perform at the Center on Sept. 1 and 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. There will be live music, dancing, and refreshments. Tickets cost $4 at the door.

Legal advice

For other legal advice, the COA will host consultations with elder law attorney Brandon Walecka on Sept. 9 from 10 to 11 a.m. by appointment only.

The COA also recommends reaching out to the Justice Bridge Legal Center, a UMass Law affiliate that can be reached by calling (508) 449-9296 or emailing info@justicebridge.org.

Justice Bridge will also hold a clinic on Sept. 29 from 2 to 3 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call the Center.

Hearing clinic with At Home Healthcare

Hearing evaluations and hearing aid checks will be held Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Red Cross blood drive hosted by the Dartmouth Council on Aging

The American Red Cross will host a blood drive at the Dartmouth Council on Aging on Sept. 21 from 1:30 to 6 p.m. Appointments can be made in advance by calling 1 (800) 733-2767 or by visiting redcrossblood.org and entering “Dartmouth COA.”

Medicare 101

SHINE Program Regional Director Christie Rexford will present Medicare basics and the importance of enrollment periods for seniors on Sept. 23 at 1 p.m.

Classes at the Center 

Cam’s body awareness is held from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday and 1 p.m. Fridays. Cost is $2.

Gentle Yoga with Joan is held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Fridays. Cost is $5.  Walk-ins are welcome.

Strength and Flexibility with Larry will be held Mondays and Thursdays from 9 to 10 a.m. Larry will teach how to improve your muscle, bone strength, balance and flexibility with a full body routine using hand weights.This modified class is fit for all. 

Cost is $2. Walk-ins are welcome.

Tai Chi will be held Tuesdays from 9 to 10 a.m. Classes returned Aug. 10 as part of an eight week session. Cost is $30 for the eight weeks. Those who want to get a preview before doing more tai chi are encouraged to drop in for a free class.

Games

Bridge will be held Mondays from noon to 3 p.m. Cribbage will happen Tuesdays from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mah Jongg is on Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m.

On Mondays and Thursdays from 1 to 2:30 p.m., the Center will offer billiards lessons. Classes are limited to four people. To register, call the Center.
