Historical Society to host talk on slavery in the region
Feb 25, 2016
The Dartmouth Historical Society will be hosting an evening with guest lecturer Tony Connors, president of the Westport Historical Society.
Connors will be discussing the lives of five individuals who shed light on Old Dartmouth's connections to slavery. His talk will be held at the Russells Mills Schoolhouse on March 6 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The group includes two who engaged in the slave trade and an indentured servant to a Westport family who ran away.
The five profiles will highlight little-known aspects of slavery and the slave trade as they existed in the region during the 18th and 19th centuries.
A $5 donation is recommended. Refreshments will be served.
The schoolhouse is located at 1205 Russells Mills Road.
