Historical society to resume Sunday lecture series on Oct. 16

Oct 6, 2022

The Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society’s Sunday afternoon lecture series will return this month at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 16 with a presentation about Dartmouth historical figure Paul Cuffe.

The lecture will be given by Cuffe researcher and retired Economics professor and author David Cole who recently published a book about Cuffe in collaboration with three other researchers entitled “Paul Cuffe: His Purpose, Partners and Properties.”

The book provides new information about Paul Cuffe’s father, Cuff Slocum, and his Wampanoag brother-in-law, Michael Wainer.

The presentation will focus on Cuffe’s time in Russells Mills, where it is likely that Cuffe’s coastal shipping businesses were first based.

The presentation will be held in the old Russells Mills Schoolhouse at 1205 Russells Mills Road.

The event is open to the public. Light refreshments will be served and a $5 donation is suggested.
