Feb 26, 2019

Two Dartmouth High sports teams entered the postseason, but only one is advancing after the first round of the ice hockey and basketball tournaments on Feb. 25.

In ice hockey, the 12th seeded Indians defeated the 21st seeded Silver Lake team 5-4 in overtime in the preliminary round of the Div. 3 South tournament.

During that game, the Indians took an early 1-0 lead in the first period, with Angelo Nicolosi putting the first point on the board.

Things heated up in the second period. Will Cote made the Indians’ lead 2-0, but Silver Lake was quick to match.

Silver Lake put its first point on the board with nine minutes left in the period, and followed that up with a game tying goal five minutes later.  Angelo Nicolosi closed the second period with Dartmouth in the lead with his second goal of the night.

Leading 3-2 heading into the third period, Silver Lake scored two points to take the lead 4-3. But with just over a minute remaining in regulation, Will Cote tied the game 4-4 to advance into overtime. Kyle Charbonneau secured the game winning goal in overtime.

The Indians will face Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech on March 1 at 6 p.m. at the Canton Ice House.

The 17th seeded Indians girls basketball team, in its first postseason appearance in several years, faced a 64-51 loss to 16th seeded Notre Dame. The Indians struggled for most of the game, but came within two points of taking the lead to end the third quarter.
