Holy Ghost Society of Horseneck to celebrate the Moving of the Crown

The Holy Ghost Society of Horseneck will be hosting their annual Moving of the Crown celebration on June 2 at 104 Allens Neck Road.

A fundraising sale of home made sweet bread, malasadas and coffee will be held from 9 a.m. Advance orders are encouraged.

The Crown will be moved into the church at 3 p.m. to prepare for the society’s yearly feast, which will take place on June 15 this year.

Prayers in Portuguese will follow the ceremony and will continue every weeknight at 7:30 p.m. leading up to the feast.

The society’s 119th annual feast will take place June 15 - 16 starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday with soupas and cacoila on sale in the dining hall as well as a concession stand selling other food and drinks. 
 
On June 16, an 11 a.m. mass at St John the Baptist church in Westport will be followed by a procession to the Holy Ghost grounds at 12:30 p.m. from the corner of Allen’s Neck and Barney’s Joy roads.
 
There will be Portuguese costumes and live music. After the Crown is moved back, free soupas will be served in the dining hall and a fundraising auction of donated items will take place at around 1:30 p.m.
