James DeCosta, 76, of North Dartmouth, passed away Monday, April 20, 2020, at St. Luke’s Hospital, in New Bedford, after a period of declining health. He was the husband of 56 years to Lucille (Lafond) DeCosta.

Born in Acushnet, September 10, 1943, son of the late Manuel and Silvana (Oliveira) DeCosta, he lived most of his life in Dartmouth where he graduated from high school.

Jim was a self employed carpenter for 50 years.  He enjoyed playing and watching softball, dirt biking and spending time in the outdoors, also spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren who knew him as Gamps.

He is survived by his wife;  three sons, James, Jr., Mark James  and Kevin James DeCosta;  seven grandchildren, Ryan James, Scott James, Cassie, Courtney, Tori, Kaylee and Justin;  five adorable great grandchildren, Giada, Hayden, Damian James, Alexis and Alanna;  a brother, Raymond DeCosta and his wife Jodi of SC and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.  Mr. DeCosta was the brother of the late Robert and Ronald DeCosta.

In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated and a Memorial Celebration will be held in the Summer.  Arrangements are by the Donaghy-Hathaway Funeral Home, 465 County St., New Bedford.
