Janet M. Doe, 86

SO. DARTMOUTH-Janet M. Doe, 86, of South Dartmouth, MA, retired School Administrator for the Worcester Vocational School System, passed away at St. Luke's Hospital on July 28, 2024. She had been a resident of New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home for the past 2 ½ years.

She was the daughter of the late James J. Miller and Berniece Evelyn Tilton Miller.

Janet attended New Bedford Public Schools and graduated from New Bedford Vocational High School. She graduated from Framingham State College with a BS in Household Arts and obtained a Master's Degree from Fitchburg State College and M Ed and CAGS from the University of Mass. She taught for 3 years at Old Rochester Regional High School, married Kingsley W. Doe and moved to Shrewsbury, MA. Janet taught at the Fanning Trade High School, Worcester, MA for 3 years and then became the Director of David Hale Fanning School. She soon became the Director of the Worcester Technical Institute where she served for 32 years until her retirement in the Fall of 1996.

Janet has served in many clubs and organizations and developed the After School Program at Grace Episcopal Church. She worked the Food Pantry, Bittersweet Bazaar, Episcopal Church Women and was involved with Top of the Hill Social Group at the church.

She was active in the Dartmouth Republican Town Committee and served as a Town Meeting member, The New Bedford College Club and New Bedford Voke Alumni Assn. Board. She was inducted into the Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech Hall of Fame and in 1998 was presented with the Career Achievement Award. She was a member of the Wanderers of DCTV Dartmouth. Janet also served for several years as Chairman of the Bay View Improvement Assn. and Chairman of the Stone Ledge Beach Assn.

Janet loved life and enjoyed helping others.

She is survived by her husband, Kingsley William Doe; their son, James Miller Doe and his wife, Diane of Dartmouth; Her grandchildren, Caitlin E. Doe Venter and her husband, Zaine Venter, Michael B. Doe and Kimberly C. Doe Cabraldo and her husband, Zachery Cabraldo; her great-grandchildren, Kai Venter, Zoe Venter and Elizabeth Cabraldo; her nieces, Gwendolyn Phelps and Joscelyn P. Moore of Leominster, MA. Janet was predeceased by her sister, Judith Phelps of Arlington.

Her family will receive visitors in the funeral home Friday, August 9 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Her service will be conducted in Grace Episcopal Church Saturday, August 10 at 10:00 A.M. Kindly go directly to the church. Inurnment in South Dartmouth Cemetery at a later date.
