Janice May (Decker) Ellis, 88, of Dartmouth passed away peacefully August 19, 2019 at Sippican Healthcare Center in Marion, MA.

Born in Stephentown, NY, she was the daughter of the late B. Franklin and Eleanor M. Decker, and sister of the late Stanley, William and Armand Decker and Shirley Tavares.

Janice lived in the New Bedford area for most of her life and retired from the New Bedford Public School Department where she worked as a Paraprofessional. She was previously employed by John I. Paulding, Inc. in New Bedford.

Janice was an avid reader and Red Sox fan. She loved to sew and knit and made clothing for her family.

She is survived by her beloved daughters: Cheryl Bernier and her husband Dana of South Dartmouth, MA, Sharon Stringer and her husband Marc of Englewood, FL, Charlene Beaton of Kennesaw, GA, and Patricia Ellis and her husband Daniel Soares of Fairhaven, MA; her grandchildren: Ryan and Kyle Bernier;, Kara, John and Craig Stringer, and Kelsey and Kerri Beaton; and her twin sister, and best friend, Bernice Sylvia of New Bedford, MA.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 23, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford. Burial will be private. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Janice’s memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation at Parkinson.org.
