John Richard West
Born June 7, 1953 in Lexington MA, son of Paul B. West and Charlotte (Boyer) West, John Richard West of Dartmouth passed away peacefully at Brigham & Women’s Faulkner Hospital on Nov. 26, 2020.
John was an amazing and passionate man with a zest for life and a quest for learning and trying new things. His primary and lifelong passion of sailing and the ocean was a product of his lifelong association with Bustin’s Island in Maine with great friend Donnie Kitchen. His newest dream was to travel the US in his Airstream trailer with his loving companion Maria during the summers and to retire to the home they built in the Philippines in the winter. John also enjoyed fishing, hunting, horseback riding, home brewing beverages, and his pets.
Over the years, John acquired a large circle of friends around the world and loved learning about all cultures and customs. He loved to cook and entertain; all of his friends and family were welcome in John’s home.
John was a loving, empathic, intelligent, caring man who based his life on helping the world become a better place through his actions. He supported many projects to provide housing and aid to needy populations around the world. He made a positive impact on all people and animals that came into his life and he will be greatly missed.
He retired last year from IBM where he spent 25 years as a Senior Managing Consultant; traveling the world. His career, like his life, traveled many paths. Having received his Baccalaureate dual concentration degree in Math and Zoology from UMass Amherst, he spent time as a research biologist, before becoming an Air Traffic Controller. Then he proceeded to receive a Master’s Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University. Information Technology became his final career of choice.
John is survived by his three children, Joshua West and his fiancé Juliet Park, Andrew West & his wife Laura Hayes West and their two children, Alex & Ellie and Jessica West and her fiancé Lauren Savery and his grand-puppy Kiki; Three siblings, Paul B. West and his wife Donna T. West and their three children; Mark Joseph West and his wife Miriam and their four children; Mary Jill West Markarian and her husband George and their two sons.
