Jose A. Alves, 92, of Dartmouth, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 in his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Ilda S (Santos) Alves to whom he shared 70 loving years of marriage.

Born In Vidago, Portugal, he was son of the late Isilda Alves. Jose was a longtime resident of Dartmouth and a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. He was employed as a landscaper for over 15 years prior to retiring.

Jose was a devout husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. There was nothing more important than family. He enjoyed music, dancing and loved to watch Tony play the accordion.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his nine children, Fernanda DaSilva and her husband Alfredo of Dartmouth, Tina Carneiro of New Bedford, Tony Alves and his wife Grace of Dartmouth, Celia Pires and her husband Deacon Albertino Pires of Fairhaven, Helena Bulhoes and her husband Jorge of Dartmouth, Isilda Alves and her husband Amaro of Dartmouth, Alan Alves and his wife Leah of Westport, Paul Alves and his wife Kimberly of Dartmouth and Susana Thomas and her husband Derek of Dartmouth; 24 grandchildren, 22 great-grandhildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Jordan and Trevor Alves and he was predeceased by several siblings.

His funeral service will be held on Monday, October 28, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Road, South Dartmouth followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford, MA 02746. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
