Jose S. Cabral, 77

Jose S. Cabral, 77, of South Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2017 at Massachusetts General Hospital with his wife by his side.

He was the husband of Carmelia B. (Rebelo) Cabral and the late Juliete (Senra) Cabral. Born in Sao Pedro, Nordeste, Sao Miguel Azores, he resided in Dartmouth since 1966 and was a communicant of St. Mary Church in South Dartmouth. Cabral was employed at Tilcon for 35 years, retiring as foreman.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and watching soccer games, especially his favorite team, Benfica.

His family includes his wife of 34 years, Carmelia B. Cabral of South Dartmouth; two daughters, Lisa Poncin and her husband Eric of Seekonk, and Susie Cabral of Dartmouth; two sons, Joseph Cabral and John Cabral, both of Dartmouth; two sisters, Ilda Melo of Plymouth and Maria Tecla Lima and her husband Jose of Sao Miguel; six grandchildren, Tiffany, Noah, Eric, Mason, Julia and Katie; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Jorge Medeiros and Maria Rita Medeiros.

Visiting hours will be held on August 25 from 5-8 p.m. at the Aubertine-Lopes Funeral Home, 129 Allen Street in New Bedford. His funeral will be on August 26 at 7:45 a.m. at the funeral home with a mass of Christian burial to be celebrated in St. Mary Church, South Dartmouth at 9 a.m. Interment in St. John Cemetery.
