Learn about chipmunks at Smith Farm

Jan 3, 2017

This February, the Buzzards Bay Coalition is offering a series of free events to get kids outdoors and learning about the environment. Through hands-on activities and fun games, Itty Bitty Bay Explorers seeks to educate families on the animals, plants and habitats of Buzzards Bay. Each program runs from 10-11 a.m.

The program begins with an educational series on chipmunks on February 1 at Smith Farm, 355 Smith Neck Road in Dartmouth. Hosted by the coalition and Dartmouth Natural Resources trust, it will include a hike along the property while reading a story about chipmunks. Kids will learn where chipmunks live during the winter and gather items chipmunks need to survive the winter.

Other outings include a program on birds on February 8 at The Sawmill, 32 Mill Road in Acushnet, a program on deer on February 15 at LaPalme Farm, Blain Street, Acushnet, and a program on animal families on February 22 at Flora B. Peirce Nature Trail, Falmouth Street, New Bedford.

The program is recommended for children five and younger. For more information, call (508) 999-6363 x219 or email bayadventures@savebuzzardsbay.org. To register, visit savebuzzardsbay.org.
