Learn at the libraries for February Vacation

Feb 11, 2023

Wondering how to entertain (and educate) your kids during vacation week?  The Dartmouth Libraries plan to offer an array of programs that will appeal to children of varying ages throughout the week.

Here’s what’s coming up:

Chain Reactions is a play based two-hour hands-on STEM workshop with educator Seth Mazor for children ages 5 and up. Mazor will show how he builds Rube Goldberg machines and then the kids will make their own. This program will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. at Southworth Library.

On Wednesday, Feb. 22, Children’s Librarian Christie Phillips will lead “snowy day crafts and activities” at 10:30 a.m. at the North Branch Library and 2 p.m. at Southworth Library.  Activities include an igloo-building challenge, a snowman challenge, a hot cocoa craft, and a sponge-painted snowman activity.

On Thursday, Feb. 23, “Professor Bugman” of the Arthropod Petting Zoo will conduct show-and-tell programs at 10:30 a.m. at Southworth Library and 2 p.m. at the North Branch Library.  The program will introduce children to a variety of arthropods — otherwise known as insects — and provide some hands-on interaction.

Aspiring jewelers will have an opportunity to make and design their own necklaces in a program, “Jewels of Joy,” on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 2:30 p.m. at the North Branch Library. This program is best for ages 10 to 13.

For more information, contact Christie Phillips at (508) 999-0726 ext. 4203 or cphillips@sailsinc.org.  Registration is required for all these programs.

The North Branch Library is located at 211 Cross Road and the Southworth Library is located at 732 Dartmouth St.
