Learn to quahog at Smith Neck Road

Jun 29, 2016

The Buzzards Bay Coalition and Dartmouth Harbormaster Department are hosting a free demonstration on harvesting quahogs at the beach by Smith Neck Road, Dartmouth on July 2, 11-1 p.m.

Coalition educators and representatives from the Town of Dartmouth will teach you the basics of local quahogging–what you need, how to do it, and where to go.

The Coalition will provide rakes, peck baskets, and some waders for your use, but feel free to bring your own equipment if you have it.

Wear clothing and shoes that can get wet and sandy, as the demonstration will include wading into the water up to waist level. Additionally, unless you have a shellfish permit for the Town of Dartmouth, this is a catch-and-release event.

This program is part of a series of Learn to Quahog programs offered throughout Buzzards Bay this summer. Other free quahogging programs include Burgess Point, July 16th, 11-12:30 p.m. and 1:00-2:30 p.m.; Silvershell Beach, July 30th, 10-12:00 p.m.; Fort Taber, August 13th, 10-12:00 p.m.
