Lecture on play and self-directed learning

The Encompass Community at Friends Academy will host a lecture and discussion by Peter Gray about self directed learning and the importance of play throughout childhood on November 28 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Academy’s 1088 Tucker Rd. location.

Peter Gray is a professor and researcher of psychology at Boston College who has focused on the role of play in human evolution and how children educate themselves through play and exploration. He is also the author of “Free to Learn: Why Unleashing the Instinct to Play Will Make Our Children Happier, More Self-Reliant, and Better Students for Life” and a column of the same name for Psychology Today magazine.

Gray is also the president of the non-profit “Alliance for Self Directed Education” and a director of the non-profit “Let Grow.

The event is free, but donations are accepted. Childcare and family-friendly art activities for children 4+ will be provided.
