Lloyd Center's annual owl prowl, Feb. 5
Research Associate Jamie Bogart will lead an the annual Owl Prowl at the Lloyd Center for the Environment on February 5. This program takes place 3:30-8 a.m. — yes, a.m. — and will be fun for owl enthusiasts, or for folks who enjoy a cold, New England winter night.
Participants will enjoy a series of stops along the country roads of South Dartmouth, where they'll venture into the dark winter woods in search screech, great horned, and barred owls, among others. At sunrise, the focus will shift to finding other winter birds — such as waterfowl, raptors, and wandering snowy owl — along the beach.
Participants should bring binoculars, a camera, and a flashlight. Wear footwear for light trail walking (possibly on snow) and dress warmly.
The cost is $9 for Lloyd Center members, and $12 for non-members. This event is appropriate for ages 15 and older; space is limited to 20.
Participants will meet at the center’s lower parking lot located at 430 Potomska Road. Willingness to carpool is appreciated. Stormy weather and excessively windy conditions will cause postponement. The inclement weather date is Sunday, February 12.
Pre-registration for this event is required by Friday, February 3, 4 p.m. To pre-register, visit www.lloydcenter.org and register online, or call the Lloyd Center’s event line at (508) 558-2918. Call Jamie Bogart at (508) 990-0505 x 23, or email jbogart@lloydcenter.org for more information.
