Man sustains minor injuries in Sable Ave house fire

A homeowner has sustained non life-threatening burns after attempting to extinguish a fire that caused more than $200,000 in damage to his Sable Ave. home on Tuesday morning.

According to a release from Dartmouth Fire District No. 3, firefighters received reports of a structure fire at 49 Sable Ave. at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 8.

The first unit to arrive on scene found heavy flames coming from the rear of a 1.5-story raised ranch which had expanded into the kitchen and attic. Dartmouth Fire Districts 1 and 2 were called to assist.

Crews were able to mostly extinguish the blaze from outside the building, the release stated, although not before it caused an estimated $225,000-$240,000 in damage.

The homeowner was home at the time of the fire and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital after sustaining minor injuries while attempting to extinguish the flames.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
