Manuel Gomes, 94
Manuel “Manny” Gomes, 94, passed away on April 29, 2017 at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. He was the beloved husband of Lucy (Carvalho) Gomes.
Gomes was the loving father of three children, Michael Gomes, husband of Ester of Dartmouth; Gary Gomes, husband of Ann Marie of Dartmouth; and Diane Pearson, wife of Daniel of Yankeetown, Florida. He is survived by five grandchildren, Michael, Jocelyn, Lauren, and Eric Gomes, and Elizabeth Hourani, as well as two nieces and two nephews.
Gomes was born in New Bedford, the son of the late Maria (Augusta) and Francisco Gomes. He was the owner of Gomes Ice and Oil Company and worked for many years at Alden Corrugated Corporation. He also was employed at The Standard-Times for more than 30 years. Mr. Gomes was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran, serving in The 75th Infantry Division. He was awarded The Bronze Star for his service at The Battle of the Bulge.
Gomes' funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m., with a service to begin at 11 a.m. at the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, 5-7 p.m. Burial to follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
