Maria da Luz (Pimentel) Carreiro, 87, of Dartmouth, died Friday, June 5, 2020 at St. Luke's Hospital following a period of declining health. She was the widow of Manuel M. Carreiro and daughter of the late Manuel Teixeira Pimentel and Rosa DeJesus (Correia) Pimentel.

Born in Povoação, St. Michael, Azores, she immigrated to New Bedford in 1969 and resided in Dartmouth since 1998. Mrs. Carreiro was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church and the former St. John The Baptist Church and was a member of the Holy Rosary Society. She was employed as a textile inspector at Cliftex for several years. She cherished family gatherings and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening.

Her family includes her children, José Carreiro and his wife, Susanne, John Carreiro and his wife, Nancy, Maria Couto and her husband, Carlos and Aida Arruda and her husband, George; 1 brother, Benjamin Pimentel and his wife, Conçeicão of Canada; 1 sister, Dorotéia Pacheco and her husband, Antonio of Canada; 9 grandchildren, Lesleye Tilton, Jennifer Sousa, Jason Carreiro, Joshua Carreiro, Justin Couto, Alyson EnMark, Jessica Agaran, Tiffany Cordeiro and Shawn Arruda; 13 great-grandchildren, Sienna Sousa, Reese Tilton, Chase Tilton, Dylan Sousa, Ava Couto, Charlotte Carreiro, Everly EnMark, Lucas Couto, Anneliese Carreiro, Julian Carreiro, Savannah Agaran, Jason Junior Carreiro and Christian Carreiro; several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Manuel, João and Antonio Pimentel, Alzira Cardoso, Zelia Botelho, Laudelina Pimentel and Aguida Pimentel.

Interment is private. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Aubertine-Lopes Funeral Home, 129 Allen St., New Bedford.
