The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection will host an informational meeting about the preliminary investigation into historic dumping in the Bliss Corner neighborhood.

The meeting will be held at the Dartmouth High School auditorium, 555 Bakerville Rd., at 6 p.m. on March 21.

At the meeting, MassDEP personnel will provide an update on the investigation, which began last year following the discovery of buried waste material at a construction site in the neighborhood. Three other properties were discovered with similar waste material. Additional testing revealed the presence of toxic chemicals, including heavy metals and Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBSs) in the dirt, at one of the properties.

The current investigation is now focused on identifying the extent and source of the contamination. A preliminary study area of nearly 100 properties in between Rockdale Avenue and Milton Street has been identified.

The meeting will take place in the auditorium at Dartmouth High School, 555 Baskerville Road. Contact the Dartmouth Board of Health with questions about the meeting or location at 508-910-1804.
