Sen. Mark C. Montigny, who has served 16 terms in the Senate, is up for re-election this year — but he isn’t running unopposed.

First-time candidate Molly Kivi and Montigny will vie for the Democratic nomination for the Second Bristol and Plymouth seat in the primary election.

Voting on the day of the state primaries, Tuesday, Sept. 3, will take place from 7 a.m. at 8 p.m. With no Republican candidate, this primary will determine who takes the seat.
