My Brother’s Keeper volunteer killed, another injured following box truck accident
Dartmouth’s Jean Revil, 67, was struck and killed by a box truck on Joseph Drive in Fall River on Wednesday, July 17 while volunteering for My Brother’s Keeper, according to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.
Revil and a fellow volunteer, who is a 64-year-old Bristol, Rhode Island man, were struck around 12 p.m. when the box truck driver, a 25-year-old Taunton woman, backed the truck into the two volunteers who were behind it, according to the preliminary investigation.
My Brother’s Keeper is a nonprofit that organizes drop offs and pick-ups of donated furniture, with facilities in Easton and Dartmouth. The driver, two victims and three others were at 214 Joseph Drive to pick up a dresser when the incident occurred, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
The injured volunteer was last listed as “critical but stable” this morning at Saint Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, according to the county office.
The matter remains under investigation by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office and Fall River Police.
In a Wednesday, July 17 email sent to the My Brother’s Keeper community, President Erich Miller said, “It’s hard to express the profoundness of our loss, pain and grief. We are devastated.”
He added, “We ask for your earnest prayers for the deceased and her loved ones, for the health of our injured community member and for our staff and volunteers as we cope with the tragedy.”
In a follow-up message Thursday, July 18, Miller said Revil was one of the first volunteers from Dartmouth and was dedicated to the nonprofit’s mission. She is remembered as a “remarkably joyful person with a contagious laugh and the ability to make a heartfelt connection with everyone she encountered.”
Additionally, the injured volunteer has informed Miller he is recovering with the support of friends and family.
Miller said a prayer service for Revil will be held Friday, July 19 at 5 p.m. at St. Julie Billiart Church, located at 494 Slocum Road in Dartmouth.
