Nine Dartmouth residents to take on the Buzzards Bay Swim
Event Date:
The Buzzards Bay Swim returns on Saturday, June 28 at 7 a.m., with more than 275 swimmers set to take on the 1.2-mile open water course from New Bedford’s South End to Fort Phoenix in Fairhaven, including nine from right here in Dartmouth.
Canceled last year due to rain, the event supports the Buzzards Bay Coalition’s clean water efforts. Swimmers of all skill levels ages 11 and older can still register at savebuzzardsbay.org/swim. The $30 entry fee and $300 fundraising minimum ($150 for youth) includes a medal, breakfast, shuttle and more.
Participants will pass scenic landmarks like Butler Flats Lighthouse, with prizes awarded to top fundraising teams and fastest finishers.
Nine swimmers from Dartmouth are among those registered, including Jonathan Barratt, Nicole Rhind, Tom Marion, Thomas Southworth and Stuart Brown.
Those not swimming can donate online. One swimmer has already raised over $15,000, and the top team has passed $11,000.
The swim is one of two signature events by the Coalition. The Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride takes place October 5. Learn more at savebuzzardsbay.org/ride.
