Norman Leonard Ferreira, 85
Norman Leonard Ferreira, 85, of Dartmouth, passed away on February 6 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River after a brief illness. Norman passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of the late Rita (Santos) Ferreira with whom he shared nearly 60 years of marriage.
Born and raised in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Abel Ferreira and Alexandrina (Mello) Ferreira. He later moved to Dartmouth where he resided for over 20 years.
He was educated in New Bedford Public Schools. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home, Norman worked for his father-in-law's bakery until it closed. A personable man, Norman made a successful career as a salesman for Quality Beverage in Taunton until his retirement in 2014.
His greatest joy was his family. If he wasn't teaching his grandchildren to ride their bikes, he was volunteering at their schools or grilling Sunday night dinner for the whole family. Ferreira was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parish serving for several years as a member of the Holy Name Society and a weekly collector.
Ferreira Upon moving to Dartmouth he became a communicant of St Julie Billiart Parish and served as a weekly collector for the past 22 years. In his senior years, he enjoyed volunteering at the St. Anthony of Padua Food Pantry and spending time with friends at the Buttonwood Senior Center.
Survivors include three daughters: Michelle A. Ferreira of Dartmouth, Pamela J. Ferreira of New Bedford, Valerie J. Alves and her husband Thomas of Dartmouth; one son: Corey M. Ferreira and his wife Tracie of Dartmouth; five grandchildren: Lauren, Ashley, Mallory, and Taylor Alves and Tyler Ferreira all of Dartmouth; one sister: Lydia Fernandes of California and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by six siblings: Lionel Ferreira, Olga Cordeiro, Alexandrina Ventura, Otilia Soares, Abel Ferreira, and Gilbert Ferreira.
