Opinion: No more ‘nips’

Aug 8, 2023

To the editor:

We are writing in response to “What to do about ‘nips’ in town.”

While it would appear that our Dartmouth Select Board members, Mickelson and McDonald acknowledge the problem, they don’t feel bans work. In towns like Falmouth and Mashpee, however bans did work to decrease the amount of the small, single-use plastic bottles of liquor.

Nip bottles are non-recyclable and clog our storm drains, finding their way to polluting the ocean and marshes. Stopping pollution at the source rather than expecting folks to root through garbage at the side of the road to get back a five-cent deposit, makes much more sense to us.
