Opinion: Regarding speeding in Padanaram
To the editor:
My heart goes out to the poor woman's family after she was hit by a car while crossing Bridge Street in a crosswalk.
As a person who crosses Bridge Street twice a day while walking my dog, I can say after many close calls that it is a miracle that it took this long for a tragedy to occur.
Yes, sun glare is a factor, but driving too fast through the village and not respecting stop signs is a bigger issue.
Not to just pick on cars, bicycles regularly blow through the stop signs at Bridge Street and Elm Street without even slowing down.
Just this week, I was cursed by a driver for having the nerve to cross the street and holding her up for a few seconds.
A set of blinking yellow lights with a push button for crossing is an idea or just not allowing traffic at all on that short stretch of Bridge Street is another.
No doubt none will be considered.
Sincerely,
Richard Munson
