Opinion: In response to prior opinion on Kamala Harris

Aug 5, 2024

To the editor:

Regarding the opinion of Margaret A. Sweet (August 3, 2024) “Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party,” and particularly the comment quoted that we Democrats “know so much that isn’t so.” I would suggest that the first so called evidence of this is testimony that Ms. Sweet has some “isn’t so” information.

The U.S. Vice President (Kamala Harris) was NEVER in charge of securing our boarders. Her task was to find out the root cause of our boarder difficulties. Indeed the answers are always more complicated than they are described.  This is not a matter of setting up higher and deeper and wider barriers, but rather how can we from our end of the western hemisphere address so many difficulties in the other end.

Many nations in the world have climate refugees, drug cartel refugees, sex-trafficking refugees, economic refugees, etc. Just ask the governments of Greece and Italy. I agree with Ms. Sweet that Dartmouth voters should look at how the Democrats “came to be,” you will find a LOT like this.

Sincerely,
James T. Griffith
