Our Sisters’ School receives grant to expand educational programs
The Our Sisters’ School was awarded a $175,386 grant the Women’s Foundation of Boston to support economic, leadership and educational initiatives that aim to advance opportunities for women and girls.
The non-sectarian independent middle school — located behind the Tifereth Israel synagogue right on the Dartmouth/New Bedford line — serves a tuition-free education to girls from low-income families in the greater New Bedford area.
According to the press release, the grant money will go toward hiring a new science teacher to increase science instruction and connect STEM and arts activities to the school’s curriculum.
Money will also go toward enhancing an outdoor classroom greenhouse space.
“We are extremely proud of the work our grantee partners do to economically empower women and girls in Greater Boston,” said Christina Gordon, Co-Founder and CEO of the Women’s Foundation of Boston. “These amazing nonprofits share our steadfast commitment to investing in the long-term success of women and girls. We’re excited to accelerate their growth as part of our mission to promote women and girls’ leadership and financial independence.”
