On October 8, the Padanaram Bridge and Causeway will be closed to all except construction vehicles from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. or until construction activities are completed.

This restriction will apply to traffic in both directions. Bridge openings for vessels will stay on schedule.

Town officials are asking drivers to seek alternate routes. Local detours will be posted.

Officials said at a Select Board meeting that the bridge will only be closed on October 8, Columbus Day. The holiday was chosen to minimize the impact on drivers. The closure is necessary to allow a crane to be moved to continue work on the new maritime center at the corner of Bridge and Water Streets.
