Parks and Recreation calls for summer workers

Dec 18, 2020

There may be snow on the ground, but Dartmouth’s Parks and Recreation Department is already starting to prepare for the summer season — including sending out a call for summer workers.

Each year the department hires around 50 seasonal summer employees to work as lifeguards, gate guards, laborers, concession staff and playground instructors.

Lifeguards are subject to a mandatory swim test conducted at Round Hill on May 26.

All summer hires must complete a CPR/AED certification course at their expense before starting work. A course will be set up through the department at a reduced cost to each hire.

Application forms can be found in the “Employment” section of the parks department’s page on the town website at www.town.dartmouth.ma.us/parks-and-recreation.

Applications are due by April 16 and must be completed in full for an interview to be scheduled. Those who have worked for the department before can fill out a condensed application, due by March 31.

Interviews will be scheduled after school the week of April 26 for selected applicants. Applicants will not be made aware of their actual interview time until a week prior to the interview.

Those applicants selected for hire will be notified within two weeks from the interview date, and will be required to attend the mandatory orientation scheduled on June 7.

All new hires are subject to a drug screening policy to ensure the safety of all citizens using the beaches and playground centers.
