Parks Department: Guard your beach stickers
Dartmouth's Parks and Recreation Department is warning residents to guard their beach stickers after permits were stolen on July 13.
According to the department's Facebook page, at least three beach stickers were stolen from vehicles parked at Round Hill Beach.
The $35 tickets—available to town residents only—sell for $100 online, according to the post. Parks and Recreation Director Tim Lancaster said the stickers are also attractive to those not wanting to make the trek to the beach, which you can do for free by foot.
Lancaster said the department hasn't seen this problem in a few years, and is looking into designing stickers with either a barcode or chip for next year, which would be more difficult or impossible to duplicate.
For now, the Facebook post warns that the department has the numbers of the stolen stickers, and will be scanning stickers in the lot daily for them.
"If found, we will contact police and have the car immediately towed from the property," officials wrote.
The post suggests locking car doors and rolling windows up while at the beach, and calling police or informing beach staff in the event that you see anyone reaching into vehicles.
