Patrick J. Taffe, 51, of Dartmouth died unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington from post-surgical complications. He was the oldest and dearly beloved son of Jean C. (Reedy) Taffe of Dartmouth and the late Joseph P. Taffe, Jr.

Born in New Bedford, Patrick lived in Dartmouth for most of his life.

Soon after graduating from Dartmouth High School in 1985, Patrick began work at the New Bedford Housing Authority, where over the past 28 years he worked at multiple sites and in many different roles for the NBHA. Patrick eventually earned the position of Occupancy and Policy Administrator, where as a policy wonk he strived to help the agency better understand and implement the many regulations related to its mission.

Known for his wit and lighthearted spirit, Patrick was a close confidant and respected friend who left a positive impression on many with whom he worked and crossed paths over the years. He was a longtime member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, with whom he also accumulated many friends and wonderful memories. He was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church. Patrick was a wonderful soul whose deep love of his family was matched by their love for him.

In addition to his mother, Patrick’s survivors include his two sons, Ryan Taffe and Aidan Taffe, both of whom he proudly cherished with all his heart; his two brothers, Michael Taffe of Dartmouth, and Christopher Taffe and his wife Wendy and their daughter Eleanor of Dedham; his longtime loving companion Mildred Bretal-Paiva of New Bedford; his godmother and aunt Mary Bolton of New Bedford and her sons Joseph, John, and Daniel and their families; his aunt Catherine Reedy of Scituate and her children Karen, Seamus, and Colin and their families; the many wonderful descendants of the Victor T. Souza family; and several other friends and extended family members. He will be dearly missed by all.

His funeral mass will be celebrated on August 14 at 11 a.m. at St. Julie Billiart Church, followed by burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be on August 13 from 4-8 p.m. at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
