Paul V. Sarmento Jr., 73

Paul V. Sarmento Jr., age 73, of Dartmouth, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019 in Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility, after an extended illness.

He was the loving husband of his wife and best friend, Judith M. (Vipon) Sarmento, to whom he had been married for 51 years. Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Paul V. Sarmento Sr. and Anna (Silveira) Sarmento, he was a lifelong area resident.

Paul was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1964, and was employed as a machine operator for Revere Copper & Brass for 38 years, where he made many lasting memories and friendships.

Paul loved his family and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Judy, wintering in Florida and catching the sun on Madeira Beach. Paul had a great memory and loved to tell jokes. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, woodworking and appreciated quality craftsmanship. He had a passion for learning and was an avid reader of nonfiction. He enjoyed watching the History and Discovery Channels and missed his dog Charlie as his companion.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by three sons, Paul J. Sarmento of New Bedford, John S. Sarmento and his wife Jill of Rumford, and Gary J. Sarmento and his wife Marcy of South Dartmouth; five grandchildren, Justin, Nicholas, Lilah, Violet and Rylee; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Justine, Joey, and Caleb; and many nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 2:00PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., S. Dartmouth. Visitation will be prior from 10:00AM to 2:00PM. Relatives and friends are invited.
