A Fall River man was arrested on August 17 in connection to Mattapoisett vehicle break-ins and larceny.

Dartmouth Police identified Omot Okori, 20, as the suspect behind multiple break-ins after detectives found possibly stolen merchandise on the Letgo app, which allows for free, person-to-person sales between app users.

Mattapoisett Police received reports of car break-ins — through which laptops, credit cards, and sunglasses were allegedly stolen — on August 16 in the Brandt Island and Harbor Beach area. The stolen credit cards were used to buy multiple PlayStation 4s from Wal-Mart in Fall River, and additional attempted purchases at the Wal-Mart in Dartmouth, police said.

Through Letgo, Dartmouth and Mattapoisett detectives posed as a buyer and arranged to meet Okori. Upon meeting, an undercover officer determined that the sale items were the items purchased with the stolen credit cards. Okori was also in possession of the stolen credit cards and items taken from the car break-ins the day before, police said.

Okori was booked in Mattapoisett and charged with breaking and entering into a vehicle with the intent to commit a felony, larceny of credit cards, and larceny over $250.

The investigation is still ongoing, and the police departments remind residents to lock vehicles at all times.
