Police celebrate the holidays with successful charity drive, holiday video

Dec 30, 2019

From a bearded fundraiser to a quirky holiday video, the Dartmouth Police Department has been busy spreading holiday cheer and charity on top of its normal duties to protect and serve.

On Christmas Eve, the department and Dartmouth Community Television debuted this year’s police holiday video.

It has become a tradition for the two groups, after a 2015 segment of Dartmouth officers saving Christmas by arresting the Grinch went viral internationally.

This year’s video features Christmas music, as an officer on a routine beat encounters people who break out in song, eventually ending with the officer himself spreading holiday music over the radio to his fellow officers.

It is the fifth video the department and DCTV have produced. Past videos included a “The First 48” parody of an investigation of a grandma run over by reindeer and a parody of holiday films.

The department has more reason to celebrate too: Hitting a milestone in a two-month fundraising goal to help the children of fallen first responders.

In November, the department launched its yearly No Shave November campaign, in which officers grew out their beards to raise money for charity. This year, the department decided to donate to Blue H.E.L.P., which raises awareness about law enforcement suicide and supports families who have been affected by it.

After a month of fundraising, the department decided to extend it into December. On December 21, the department hit its $10,000 goal.

The money will be used by Blue H.EL.P. to host a summer camp on Cape Cod for the children of law enforcement officers who have died by suicide.
