Dartmouth Police said they helped assist a pair of hikers lost in the woods Wednesday night.

According to police, officers got a call from the hikers at around 8:45 p.m. saying they were lost somewhere off of Collins Road.

The hikers had a cell phone, but police said the battery was extremely low. To help the hikers, dispatchers could only communicate with the two via text, telling them to stay calm and not to move from their location.

Eventually, rescue crews from the police department and Fire District 3 were able to locate and assist the pair at around 9:15 p.m.

“Thanks to the calm demeanor and quick-thinking of our dispatchers, the hikers were provided with helpful information that made it much easier for first responders to locate them,” Police Chief Brian Levesque said.
