Police: Mooove over for stray cattle on Old Westport Road

Mar 27, 2019

Dartmouth police are advising residents to “moooove over” and report stray cattle which have been spotted on Old Westport Road in recent weeks.

In a pun-filled Facebook post, police explained the department has taken numerous reports of cattle loose on the road in the area of Lucy Little Road over the past few weeks. Recently, the Animal Control Officer captured one of the stray cattle — a Scottish highland cow — in the area.

The department warns there are still cattle loose in the area, and urges drivers to use cation driving in the area.

As for what to do if drivers spot one in the road, police offered this advice:

“If you do come across these cattle in the roadway, we recommend that you simply moooove over and let them safely pass. If they decide to milk things a bit, just blow your horn and see if that makes them hoof it out of there. Also, as always, if you do come across them, please call us so that we can beef up our presence out there, and make the appropriate notifications.”
