Public invited to attend new library groundbreaking

Jul 10, 2018

After years of planning and work, ground will officially be broken on the new North Dartmouth branch library on July 17, and the community is being invited to attend.

The groundbreaking will be held at the 211 Cross Road site of the future branch library, and will begin at 4 p.m.

The ceremony will mark the beginning of the construction phase for the $10.5 million project. Once complete, the 15,800 square foot building will include children and adult wings, rooms for children, young adults, and a 100-seat auditorium.

Planning for the new library began in 2012. In 2016, Town Meeting members approved the project, which is being funded by a state grant for $5.3 million from the Board of Library Commissioners.

The existing North Dartmouth Library on Tucker Road will be demolished as part of a project to relocate Tucker Road to link up with Hathaway Road and Route 6.
