Dartmouth resident Thomas Pappas, a former executive at a global investment management firm, was recently appointed to  Cummings Foundation’s board of trustees, the Woburn-based charitable foundation announced March 12.

Pappas earned a bachelor’s in economics and computational math from Tufts University and an MBA in finance from MIT’s Sloan School of Management prior to beginning his 23-year career in investment management.

Pappas is also an active member of the Tufts University Investment Committee and also served as a board member for several Boston-area organizations, including Museum of Science, MassINC, Bridge Boston Charter School, and Wellington Management Foundation.

“Tom brings with him a sophisticated understanding of investment strategy,” Executive Director Joel Swets said. “This expertise, coupled with his demonstrated passion for philanthopy, positions him to make a significant contribution in his role as a trustee and a member of the Foundation’s finance committee.”

In 2011, Pappas founded Move The World Foundation, which aims to expand economic opportunities for lower-income and “early generation” Americans in the greater Boston area.

“I have a strong passion for connecting with people around education, especially in Gateway Cities,” Pappas said. “There’s a lot of talent waiting to be developed in underfunded communities outside Boston proper.”
