Roadway reconstruction to start on Elm, Bridge streets

Apr 6, 2017

The Department of Public Works will start roadway reconstruction on Bridge Street, between Cleveland and Water streets, on April 10. Roads will be closed 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through May 26.

Roadway reconstruction on Elm Street, between Prospect and School streets, will also run April 10 through May 26, 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

The projects are subject to weather permitting. Expect traffic delays, and seek alternative routes.

The reconstruction is the first phase in a $1.2 million Padanaram sidewalk overhaul. This step will improve drainage and elevate the roads to accommodate sidewalks. The overall goal is to make Padanaram Village both handicap accessible and pedestrian friendly, said officials.

Over the summer, the department will work with Eversource to align existing utility poles with planned sidewalks, as well as replace older structures, officials said. After Labor Day, DPW will start putting in the sidewalks, with the goal of completing them by spring 2018, officials said.
