Roadwork recess: School’s in and construction’s out on Slocum Road
Eversource is done working on Slocum Road — for now.
At a Monday, Aug. 12 Select Board meeting, Eversource’s Anthony Veilleux said the company wanted to wait until next year to begin this project, but due to “the significant amount of leaks,” it had to be moved up to this summer.
The work from Patton Street to Metropolitan Street is now complete, but Longwood Avenue to State Road remains unfinished, Veilleux said, adding the work was put on hold until the end of the school year.
Public Works Director Tim Barber said, “Eversource will maintain their trench until they finish their next phase next year and once that trench settles, we’ll reconstruct the entire length from Patton Street to Route 6.”
In the meantime, Eversource will do work on Patton Street, Truman Avenue, Marshall Street, Nimitz Street and MacArthur Street in order to “put a whole new main in that neighborhood,” Veilleux said.
Select Board Chair Shawn McDonald said, “I would much rather have you guys take care of the problems because of leaks than to have something explode.”
