Select Board member, newcomer pull nomination papers

Jan 13, 2017

Nominations for town offices began January 3, and already, current office holders have pulled papers for the Select Board opening.

Current Select Board Chair Stanley Mickelson's three-year term runs out in 2017, and he has already pulled nomination papers for re-election. However, current Planning Board Clerk Lorri-Ann Miller is eyeing the same opening.

"I've lived most of my life in this town. It's time to give back," said Miller, who has served on various town boards for the past 30 years. "I can bring a lot of open-mindedness, fairness, and expertise to the position."

Miller said one of her focuses if elected will be bringing in "clean, friendly business" to offset increased taxes or reduced amenities to taxpayers.

Mickelson too is focused on finances. "Fiscal responsibility is my main goal," he said via phone call. "In my opinion, I've done a very good job. I like the continuity of the current board. I think we work very well together."

Miller's seat on the Planning Board will end in 2021. She plans on remaining on the board if the Select Board election doesn't pan out.

Both will have to get 50 verified signatures from town residents supporting their campaign by February 28 to be put on the ballot.

Anyone interested in running for a town board must submit nomination papers by 5 p.m. on February 14.
