Senior smoke detector program gets a boost from the Rotary Club

Dartmouth Fire District No. 3 is getting a boost to keep residents safe thanks to the Rotary Club.

Members of the Rotary Club of Dartmouth recently presented Chief Richard Arruda with a $1,000 donation for the department’s smoke detector program.

The program, which is offered free of charge, provides seniors with installation of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors by the department’s firefighters.

The program is funded annually through receipt of a Senior SAFE Grant administered by the state Department of Fire Services. However, due to high demand, the program nearly ended early due to the lack of detectors.

“This donation is allowing us to keep the program running into the new year until additional grant funds come available,” Chief Arruda said.
