Shellfishing has reopened south of the Padanaram Bridge

Nov 1, 2016

The state has lifted its closure on shellfishing that began earlier this month.

As of October 31, shellfishing in all areas south of the Padanaram Bridge Causeway is reopened. All areas north of the bridge will remain closed to shellfishing until the state Division of Marine Fisheries is able to complete its required seasonal testing.

Further notice will be provided when DMF changes the designation for that area.

The DMF originally banned shellfishing activities on October 7 for Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning, which can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps within 24 hours of consumption of contaminated shellfish or neurological symptoms in more severe cases.
