The Bristol County Sheriff's Office graduated three new canine officers trained in firearm detection, the office announced Friday.

The department held a graduation ceremony for the new officers — sheriff’s deputy Ryan Isherwood and partner Xiro, Fall River Police K9 Officer Kevin Lopes and partner Joseph, and Fall River Police Sgt. Jeff Richard and his partner, Odin — on Feb. 4 at the department’s Dartmouth headquarters.

Isherwood and Xiro also completed the bomb detection program, which will allow the duo to detect and identify the odors associated with explosives.

"Fall River and Bristol County are safer today than they were yesterday, and that's because of the tremendous accomplishments of these law enforcement professionals," Bristol County Special Sheriff Bruce Assad said.
